The problem is turnitin is it counts bibliography and any in-text citations as part of the percentage which means you’re not getting a ‘true’ result.Īfter submitting a paper, Turnitin may take up to 30 minutes to generate a report. If you're writing a paper about arctic penguins, and the site that it matched to is about arctic mint toothpaste, then they will know that it wasn't plagiarized and just a coincidence. Also, if you do have a sentence, or a couple sentences that are flagged, teachers can see the source that it is matching to on the internet. Turn It In also often flags some stuff, like if in a paper you wrote "The lightbulb was invented by Thomas Edison." That has obviously been posted on the internet 1,000,000,000 times, so the teacher will know that it wasn't copied. Particularly in English classes, where you could write a 2-3 page paper, and use long quotes, your score will come back higher, since the quotes will get flagged (also, your entire works cited page will likely be one giant red highlight lol).
If you copy word for word on off a website, then it is a problem.
Teachers can see what is flagged, just like how you see what is highlighted. A 26% is nothing, and honestly, the score doesn't matter as much (unless if it is a 100%) as what Turn it In flagged.
